10 Quick Facts about Thanksgiving that Will make you hungry

Are you ready for Thanksgiving yet? Better yet have you even started cooking? It's hard to believe it's Tuesday already and Thanksgiving is only two days away. But what do you really know about Thanksgiving? Here are 10 facts about Thanksgiving that will make you hungry.

1. TV Dinners were an after product of Thanksgiving. In 1953, Swanson had extra turkey and was suggested that they'd be sold with other sides in a tray.  The first TV dinner had turkey, cornbread stuffing, peas, and sweet potatoes./
2. There were no balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but instead animals from the Central Park Zoo.
3. America's second most popular holiday is Thanksgiving.
4. Female turkeys do not gobble. Only male turkeys gobble
5. The story about Benjamin Franklin wanting the national bird to be a turkey is false to some extentWhile he did want the national bird to be a turkey. He never publically stated that he wanted it to be a turkey.
6. Every year the president pardons a turkey from being killed. In 1947 President Truman pardoned a turkey which a few presidents ended up doing, but it was George H.W. Bush who made it a yearly tradition.
7. Thomas Jefferson refused to declare Thanksgiving a holiday. He firmly believed in church and state and since there's prayer during Thanksgiving, he wanted nothing to do with it.
8. Green bean casserole was created by Campbell's soup. It was in an annual Campbell's soup cookbook. The recipe caught on like wildfire and is now a Thanksgiving tradition.
9. Jingle Bells was not originally written as a Christmas song. It was meant to be a Thanksgiving song.
10. Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day.
