Tag Thursday: About Me You're Friendly Neighborhood Blogger

If you're new to my blog, today is Thursday, today is the day that I take a video tag somewhere on the internet and talk about it. The tags are an idea about what I'm going to be talking about during the week, and possibly in the next month. This week,I thought I'd talk about why I'm blogging and what I hope for my blog. I found this exact tag on YouTube Tags on Tumblr. I did change a few of the questions so that they're blog friendly instead of video-friendly.

1 What inspired you to start making blog posts?

The one thing that inspired me to start making blog posts is my love for writing. I wanted to have an outlet other than writing stories, and somewhere where I could just talk about things that happen in my life. A lot of my illnesses are 'invisible illnesses' and I really wanted to shed my light on that and how people like me go about life and what things are changed and so forth.

2 How long have you been on blogger, and have you had other pages?

I've been blogging for a few years now, and have had other pages, but I was new to the blog world and didn't take being a blogger seriously. So that's why I settled upon Amethyst Moon, and why it's been my 'blog baby' for the past two years.

3 Where do you see yourself (and your blog) in 5 years?

I hope to still be blogging on this blog. I'm not leaving the platform no matter what happens. I've had a few hiccups like Facebook blocking my blog, but I've learned how to work around it. I do plan sometime in the near future to actually get my own domain for my blog, rather than just a "blogger" domain.

I also hope that I can be able to help other bloggers learn how to find their voice. It's something that I think more people would enjoy if they were given the chance to blog. If there's a way I can incorporate that into my blog as well, I am going to do it

4 What message are you trying to get across with your blog posts?
My blog has two messages that I've been trying to get across for a while. One is a place to give me and my illnesses some visibility. I also want to be able to tell other people's stories and want to help others.

I talked a bit about it during my Christmas challenge, but my main motive of the blog is to show people what life is like with someone with an invisible illness or invisible illnesses. It's why I talk about food, why I talk about Freya, and why I just have days where I write. I want to show people that you can do anything you set your mind to.

Another message I hope that comes across is trying to tell other people's stories and to talk about what they've been through. I feel that if we hear other people's stories we'll eventually learn stuff about ourselves and that's exactly what life is for. To learn, and to help other people learn.

5 Do people from school find your blog?

I don't go to school yet obviously, but I'm sure there are people that I used to go to school with that could have found my blog. I'm sure a few people from my Facebook know about my blog. It's not like it's a huge secret to people. I'm not the kind of person to advertise my blog like crazy, but if they ask, I'm okay with sharing my page with them.

6 What does your blog name mean?

At first, I got it from a My Little Pony name generator, but after time as went on the name means a lot more than just the name of a hypothetical Jen pony. Amethyst is a pretty purple color and both my husband and my sister's birthstone color. Amethyst as far as color energies are concerned (if you believe in that stuff) signifies a beginning and an end of something and inspires creativity.

The moon part of my name is because of two quotes that resonated with me: "When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either." by Leo Burnett and "Don’t compare your life to others. There’s no comparison between sun and moon. They shine when it’s their time!" Written by an unknown author. Both quotes remind me that like the moon and the stars we dream and we all dream on our own wavelengths there's no reason to compare yourself to others ever.

So yeah, it's not much about liking My Little Pony then it is about being a dreamer who isn't like everyone else, that wants to inspire people to begin their stories online and that it doesn't end with me. Other people can be dreamers as much as I am.

There you have it, the reason why I blog, what my blog is about and what I hope happens with my blog. It might sound crazy but these are exactly what makes me think about my life, and what I want for my blog in the next year.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 24: 6 Gluten Free Cookie Recipes Santa would love to have

Instead of cookies tonight we made banana muffins, and because I'm so absent-minded, and my phone refused to charge, I didn't have a chance to take a photo of my yummy banana muffins for Santa, you know because Santa needs to watch what he's eating, he's not getting any younger! To make up for it, I found 6 amazingly awesome gluten-free cookies that I know Santa would have loved to get instead of my banana muffins.

3 Ingredient Cookies

It's not like mom, dad, or even Mrs. Claus has to look far for ingredients they're stuff you probably already have in your pantry. All you need is liquid sweetener, coconut oil, and coconut flour! That's it!

Gluten-Free Cinnamon Roll Cookies

We all know how much I love cinnamon and cinnamon rolls when I saw this recipe. I thought, "Hmm, Santa might like these. They're a new take on cinnamon rolls."  Then I thought about my favorite little friend, Freya, the lover of honey buns, I'm sure she would be in heaven if I handed her a cinnamon roll cookie.

Oatmeal Cream Pies

Move over little Debbie, you have nothing on Honey I'm Home DIY', your Oatmeal Cream pie cookies aren't gluten-free and last I knew you weren't dye-free either. Santa would love to have fresh out of the oven Oatmeal Cream Pies, and I'm almost sure of it.

Salted Caramel Cookies

I don't even know where to start with this recipe other than the fact that I started drooling uncontrollably the second I saw these cookies and the recipe. The thing is, I haven't tried as many cookies as Santa Claus has, but I'm almost certain he'd be asking for these as well. Look at them, the caramel looks gooey, the chocolate looks chocolatey, and they are cookies after all!

Matcha Turtle Cookies

They're adorable! They're even vegan and oil-free as well! The cuteness would make Santa's heart melt into 1000 pieces, they sure melted my heart, and my mouth as well. Just because they're too adorable doesn't mean they're not edible. These are clearly edible, and you won't feel as bad eating them, as they have no eyes!

Soft Gluten-Free Sugar Cookies

Of course, I end with a classic cookie, one I know everyone is going to enjoy. Sugar cookies! Sugar cookies with frosting to be exact! They're even better than the sugar cookies you can buy at the store in the bakery area! Let Santa know that these are better than his original choice of sugar cookies and that he may have to stay at your house more often.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 23: Sorry no decor of my own here

I apologize beforehand for not decorating my bedroom/my office area. As much as I would have loved to have decorated it, I know that the decorations wouldn't be taken down in a timely matter and would probably be hanging around all year long.

Next year I hope to decorate my room a little more, and hopefully won't forget to take it down. It doesn't hurt to start thinking about decor almost a whole year away? Does it? Is it too early to think about next Christmas's decor? If it is, I apologize, but if not, just pass over this blog post! But if for some reason this decor has you itching for more decor, please refer to post I wrote about Christmas decor last month

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 22: A Different kind of message

I really didn't feel like writing a secret message to anyone. So instead, I'm going to thank all the people that I need to here, because well, I want to be sure that everyone has a chance to read it, and don't think that I'm some kind of weirdo.

A Special Thanks To

Everyone who reads my blog and shares it: My readers and people who share my blog posts with others, I put you first on the list, because without you guys, I wouldn't be blogging. I'd still be sitting around wishing I had a blog. I can't imagine what I'd do without you guys and gals.

The companies I got to work with: For the companies, I had a chance to work with. My blog would be one dimensional and boring if not for you guys and gals. I loved that you guys put some trust in me with your products, and I hope that I've done them justice.

My husband: You wouldn't believe how often he suggests things for my blog. He's always there when I need support with my blog. A lot, if not all of the recipes that I have posted here, are from my husband's mind and handiwork, he's a guru in the kitchen. But what I really thank him for is believing in me.

My Siblings, and Mom: Both to my brother and sister, thanks for just being my siblings and being my mother. I don't give you guys as much credit as you deserve. They're always in the back of my mind when I'm writing and have always had faith in me when it came to writing.

The People Who I've blogged about this year: I feel that everyone has a message, and everyone has a story to tell. Those who are stories that enriched my blogging thank you. I love spreading the message about what you guys stand for. While teaching my readers about different illnesses and things that happen in people's lives.

Rhett & Link: It's not like they'll actually read this blog, but I thank you, two guys, for spawning my own crazy "Will it?" blog posts. I don't know if I'd ever get to your level eating an earthworm, hearts or even animal food, you guys make it look so easy.

Freya: Last but not least I thank my furry friend, who likes to help me with blogging sometimes. She's helped me blog, she's helped me feel better when I was sick, and she even has been a lap warmer while I'm blogging. She's a little bit of everything. Thanks fur ball.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 21: I love Candy, I love Candy...Canes

Yes totally, to find a gluten-free, dye-free candy cane in our area isn't as easy it may sound. I think when I went to the store they only had one variety of candy canes I can eat. It doesn't mean that I don't enjoy candy cane's its just difficult to find any that are actually safe for me to eat.

It really isn't the candy cane's themselves that bring me excitement, it's the nostalgic purpose of buying one. It brings me back to a time when I was younger and life was easier at least a little bit.
variety of sliced fruits, cookies, and chocolates on gray steel tray
Candy canes bring back a memory I had when I was a child. I apologize for it being slightly gross beforehand.

When I was a child we had a cat named Sassy, she was a pretty cool cat. One day my mom noticed something was stuck to her rear-end. Immediately mom thinks it's cat poop since she was a long-haired cat. When she went to cut it out of her fur, my mom realizes that it was a blue candy cane since it was around Christmas time. We still laugh about the whole story, since it was pretty funny

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 20: My Top 5 Wishlist Items

I'm so excited to share my Christmas Wist with people for my Favorite Top5 Things this week. It took some time thinking about 5 things that would actually want to share with someone. But I went right to my Amazon Wishlist for this. And spawned the idea off of Matthias's Dope or Nope Episode where they bought stuff off of random coworkers wishlists.

I even stayed under the $100 goal that Matthias had for the people that he worked with. It was a ton of fun! Coming up with only 5 items instead of 10, like they did.

1. Women's Cascade Ankle Boots
They're totally adorable aren't they? They even come in 4 different colors, black, white, green and navy. I like the black more than the other colors because you know black goes with almost anything

2.  Manhattan Toy Folksy Foresters Stuffed Animals Fox
My husband has a stuffed bear that he calls Medic. Medic is a special bear, he helps people when they don't feel good. He went to the berry best medical bear school ever. But I've been thinking that Medic doesn't need to do all of the work, so I want to give him a friend. He's not a bear friend, but a cute little fox. I love foxes and I know Medic can teach the fox everything he knows to make me feel better.

3. Weighted Blanket
I've been eyeing a weighted blanket for some time. I'm sure I'm going to buy myself one eventually, but it's on the wishlist because I know it'd make a great gift for me.

4. Complete DIY Candle Making Supplies
I admit this just looked pretty cool when I saw it on Amazon, it's a cool gift. It has everything I need to be crafty and make myself some candles. At least I think it has everything I need.
5. Star Wars Death Star Waffle Maker
Totally nerdy, but totally adorable. Gluten-free Star Wars Waffles sound cool! I've been wanting a waffle iron for awhile and to find one that talks to my inner nerd, it's pretty cool.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 19: Can I get a resolution>

When it comes to resolutions, I've learned not making one is the way to go, whether it be a New Years' resolution or an Advent resolution. It seems to be the same old song and game every year, I write a list of resolutions, and I eventually slip-slide until I don't follow through at all. It's the same with most people right?

I did, however, make a winter bucket list. I don't want it confused with resolutions, because unlike resolutions, which are new things I want to start doing, like losing weight, spending more time with family, or eating healthier, my bucket list, is a list that mentions things I would like to do this season.

I can't wait until there's enough snow to do some of the items on my bucket list. Just building a snowman on the computer doesn't do it for me. I want to feel the cold snow in my hands, I want to go outside I want to have fun. I didn't spend my childhood creating snowmen online.

So, the easy answer to the question in the challenge would be no. I don't have any advent resolutions, nor will I have any. The more complex answer would be, I rather do my bucket list, at least I don't have to feel bad that  I didn't get around to doing a certain task.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 18: 6 Sounds that remind me of Christmas

Unlike smells, there are so many sounds that remind me of Christmas, there are sounds that only Christmas can produce. There are moments when you know it's Christmas when you hear certain things.

1. Christmas Music

They play Christmas music way too early, and it's bothersome, but at the same time, I know that Christmas is right around the corner, and it's time to start decorating, and time to have a little more Christmas cheer. There are many of Christmas songs, from many different genre's that there shouldn't be a hard time finding one Christmas song that someone finds enjoyable.

2. The crunching of snow under my feet

When we do get snow around here, the sound of snow, the crunch, crunch, crunch brings me back to a time when sledding, and having fun in the snow was what brought me back to Christmas. The sound of snow is much better than any of the ASMR videos that I've heard. The sound of nature can be so calming, can't it?
focus photo of round clear glass bowl

3. The Salvation Army Bells

You know it's Christmas time when you hear the ringing of the Salvation Army's bells outside of all of the stores you're shopping at. It's the one sound I associate with Christmas shopping, mainly because you can't get away from the sound no matter how hard you try to escape it.

4. Coughing

I can't get away from the sound of people coughing at the store. Coughs and colds are the gifts that keep on giving. To make matters worse, we go and visit our family and friends, despite being sick, spreading our colds to everyone around us.

black-and-pink high-top sneakers

5. The furnace kicking on

It never fails, as soon as I get comfortable the furnace kicks on, sometimes causing me to jump out of my skin. I jump easily, so there's no doubt that I'd jump every time the furnace kicks on. Multiple times a day I'm trying to calm myself down. You'd think that I'd eventually grow used to the sound, I have yet to. At least it's not as bad as the smell that the newly started furnace emits.

6. Kids running around the apartment hallway

It doesn't matter what time of day it is, there's always a kid running around in the hallway of the apartment complex that we live in. It could be seven in the morning and there are kids running around, laughing and playing. I don't mind the sound of children in the hallway, I just don't like it when it's six or seven in the morning and there's kids running around in the halls.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 17: Guess what I yelled in public?

I hate to admit it, but this is the only day that I'm not going to participate in the Christmas Blogmas Challenge. I am not going to go into public quoting Buddy the Elf. I'm too shy and quiet to even attempt to want to do something like that.

For those of you who've followed along and are doing the Christmas challenge as well, are you the kind of person who can quote a line from a movie in public loudly? Even if it was a Buddy the Elf quote?

And for those of you who actually did today's challenge, what kind of looks did you get? Did anyone quote Buddy with you? I'm curious to see how this actually worked.

I really haven't seen the movie enough to know any of Buddy's quotes, to begin with. Could I have quoted another movie instead? Yeah, it's time to question my motives and wonder if I should have gone with quoting something in public, and embarrass myself? There's always next year when I can try my hardest not to be so nervous about quoting buddy the elf.

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 16: 8 reasons why I love fuzzy socks over sweaters

I love fuzzy socks, I don't even have to think about it, there's just something about fuzzy socks that makes me so happy. I really love the fuzzy socks with the little rubber grippy things at the bottom of them so I don't fall down and hurt myself. You know, because I'm clumsy and all. But what makes fuzzy socks so cool to me? There are many reasons and I can't get through all of them in one day!

1. You can wear two different fuzzy socks and still be cool
Who said I couldn't mismatch two different fuzzy socks? Imagine the creativity finding two socks that sort of match to make a new pair of socks.

person standing beside christmas tree2. They're easy to give as gifts
Unlike other articles of clothes, somewhat bigger fuzzy socks take the guesswork out of remembering what size someone wears. I love big roomy socks.

3. The ones with the grips on the bottom are great on tile
I already mentioned it once, but I'll say it again, the socks with the grips on the bottom make walking into the kitchen a safer trip. You can't slip and slide as easy. From an easy bruiser, the less falls the better. Nobody wants to see all of my bruises from tripping.

4. I don't get overheated as easily
Unlike sweaters, I'm not overheating as bad. Sweaters get warm easily and getting warm easy means sweating. Sweating at a Christmas party or anywhere is embarrassing. I can save myself the embarrassment of sweating to death by wearing a pair of fuzzy socks.

5. Fuzzy socks never go out of fashion
I've seen holiday trends come and holiday trends go. I don't know how long the ugly sweater thing is going to last, but I do know that I have yet to see fuzzy socks go out of style. It's one of those staples that doesn't go out of style.
pair of yellow-and-pink striped socks
6. Socks are easier on the pocketbook
Fuzzy socks are usually fairly cheap, and because they're fairly cheap, they're easier on the pocketbook. That means you could give more gifts, donate your leftover money, or keep it for yourself.

7. Fuzzy socks are small and easy to wrap
Did I mention that you don't need to master in the art of wrap-fu to be able to wrap a pair of socks? You don't even need to wrap them, they have bags small enough that it'd be easy to give the gifts for Christmas.

8. People can always use a new pair of socks
Socks are staples everywhere, it's like people can always use a new pair or an extra pair of socks for whatever reason. So yeah, buying fuzzy socks is something you know someone could use more of.

Everyone needs a friend like Moose in their lives: My Review of Penguin & Moose

Do you know how to fly? I don't and neither does Penguin the penguin. I'm aware penguins are flightless, so are humans. But wanting to be able to fly has always been something I wanted to learn how to do. Like most kids, I was sure tying a blanket or a towel around my neck would cause me to have the ability to climb. The same goes with flapping my arms really really fast. That's why when I heard about the book Penguin and Moose, I knew I could relate.

Story Description (Copied from Target)

Penguin has a problem--he doesn't know how to fly. He and his friend, Moose, try everything they can think of to get him airborne: balloons, treetop starts, cocooning like a caterpillar. But no matter how hard they try, Penguin remains firmly on the ground. At the end of the day, a tired and disappointed Penguin realizes that he has something better than the ability to fly--a friend that supports and loves him no matter what. Written by best-selling author Hannah C. Hall, this series debut celebrates the power of friendship. Children are sure to fall in love with the adorable Penguin and Moose.

What I thought about This Book

I really love heartwarming stories about friendship, even as an adult, I feel that we need more books about kindness and friendship and this book has that. Moose attempts to do everything in his power to help his friend penguin. He even rolled penguin into a 'bird burrito' because penguin hoped that wrapping himself into a cacoon because his mom read him a book about butterflies being able to fly after being in a cacoon.

"A friend loves at all times" Proverbs 17:17

Moose is an amazing friend and is so nice and caring. If there was one major takeaway from this book it would be that a true friend would be there for you, trying to help you no matter what the problem may be. Everybody needs a "Moose" in their life, someone who's willing to go the extra mile for you. Even if you find out things don't work as you think they will.

My recommendations and suggestions

This book is great for both adults and children alike. My husband even enjoyed the book when he read it. He mentioned to me that Moose was a great moose, and it was nice to see Moose helping Penguin. So what if Penguin couldn't fly, Moose was ther for him every step of the way. If you're looking for a book to add as a stocking stuffer, or as an anytime gift for your children, you won't regret it.

My book rating: 4.5/5

Christmas Challenge Blogmas Day 15: I smell Christmas

I'm laying here on my bed imagining what Christmas smells like from my point of view. I haven't thought about Christmas having a smell, maybe I haven't thought deep enough about the smell of Christmas.

Here in Michigan, and even when I lived in Indiana, there has only been a handful of times that I had a white Christmas, so imagining the cold snow smell, isn't where my mind is headed.

Does Christmas smell like cookies and caramel? In my point of view, it doesn't. It's not something that sticks out in my mind when someone has me remembering the smell of Christmas.

Please don't get me started on the shopping store Santa smelling like body odor and an old musty outfit, that was left in the attic all year long. The thought about Christmas shouldn't make anyone want to vomit right?

If I had to pick one smell that reminds me of Christmas and puts me back into the memory, it'd be pine. Even though I have a pine tree right outside of my window, the smell of a pine tree indoors is a bit different. It's like the tree adapts to being inside of a house, and takes on a new smell. Even picking up a bottle of pine essential oils doesn't smell the same. The smell of Christmas is beautiful.

10 Pairs of Gothic Style Leggings You Need in your Wardrobe

Once upon a time, I used to not like leggings much, I thought they were boring, uncomfortable and that they couldn't go with anything I wore. It was a few years ago, when I bought my first pair of leggings. They were a pair of skeleton leggings from Amazon. They were adorable! That's when I realized, "Hey leggings are pretty cool!"
Now that Christmas is coming up, and I like to be as comfortable as possible around the holidays, rather than dressing up, I knew it was time to talk leggings. My pair of leggings from Thanksgiving inspired me to think outside of the box when it comes to clothes. I like the goth/alternative so that's exactly what I'm doing. Finding the leggings that I must have in my collection.

2. Rockabilly gothic skull cut up-cut out sexy ripped look leggings from Skelappeal for $25.95
